On the historic afternoon of October 23, a diverse assembly of civic leaders, media practitioners, international advocates, and enterprise leaders gathered for the Media & the Global Filipino: Recognizing the Role of Media in Connecting, Informing and Mobilizing the Filipinos for the SDGs. Timed in observance of United Nations Day and Media and Information Literacy Week, the landmark event—co-presented by PinoyWorld TV and the United Network of Global Citizens (UNGC)—underscored a vital truth: the media is not merely a passive mirror of society, but an active catalyst for transformation.
PinoyWorld TV is a digital media network, content hub, and production ecosystem dedicated to showcasing Filipino talent, stories, and global advocacies.
UNGC, on the other hand is the international advocacy organization promoting global citizenship, cross-border partnerships, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At its core, the gathering highlighted the profound responsibility of media in connecting, informing, and mobilizing Filipinos worldwide toward the fulfillment of the SDGs. Through powerful keynote addresses by leaders like Dr. Margarita Consolacion C. Ballesteros and Global UNA Philippines President Ric Cruz, the event illuminated how critical thinking, ethical storytelling, and digital literacy serve as essential drivers for sustainable development.

The heart of the afternoon—a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Direk JP Ninalga—showcased how media bridges diverse facets of the Filipino experience to global targets. From celebrating the empathy of healthcare workers (Dr. Sandy Montano) and championing sustainable tourism (Ric Cruz), to scaling grassroots progress (Prof. Pilar Bautista), honoring overseas heroes (Ms. Arriane Symmes), projecting authentic identity onto the global entertainment stage (Mr. Lance Raymundo), and harnessing the intentional power of digital content (Leanna Alonto), media was framed as the ultimate conduit for truth and advocacy.
Attended by diverse and influential personalities across the archipelago, the commemorative event was graced by Isabela’s Dr. Cecilia La Madrid-Dy, civic organizer and entrepreneur known for her work in women's empowerment, public service, and telecommunication, notably as first female president of JCI Senate Philippines (sworned in January 2025). She is also the brain behind the highly recognized and celebrated and Guiness World of Records-listed Bambanti Festival. She encouraged the media to take the road less travelled through “positive narratives rather than propagating sensationalized and damaging news.“
Leaders and peace-makers from Basilan also made it to the event calling all Filipinos for solidarity and inclusive governance. Other attendees came from Key Organizations and Partners:
United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP / Global UNA Philippines): Advancing UN objectives, education, and civic engagement nationwide.
Axelore Business Consultancy Services: Strategic partner of PinoyWorld TV, represented by event hosts Jakeson and Anne Quiatchon.
Global Fusion Media: Key media partner entering into formal partnership agreements with PinoyWorld TV and UNGC.
Department of Education – International Cooperation Office (DepEd-ICO): Key educational institution represented through keynote insights on global media and information literacy.

IDG Philippines Global Citizens Network: Supporting inner development goals and global civic engagement.
Cheers Global & International Association of Dementia Care Nurses: VIP partner organizations advocating for global healthcare standards and compassionate caregiving.

Cemented by strategic MOA signing and certification as media partners with key partners like Engr. Hermenio Orbe, Global Fusion Media, and Wazzup Pilipinas, the event proved that shared visions translate into lasting action. As the gathering concluded, it left a resounding message: when media practitioners connect people and amplify authentic stories, they do more than inform—they mobilize communities, uniting the global Filipino voice to inspire action and achieve a sustainable future across borders.
