Vilma Santos leads Hall of Fame inaugural; artists, industry workers get cited at the 42nd PMPC Star Awards for Movies
As the Philippine entertainment industry converged at the Winford Resort and Casino for the 42nd Star Awards for Movies on Sunday night, the spotlight shines brightest on a true titan of the silver screen. Beloved actress Vilma Santos-Recto, universally hailed as the “Star for All Seasons,” makes historic waves as she is officially inducted into the PMPC Star Awards, Inc. Hall of Fame.
Earning this monumental distinction as the very first actress in the Movie Actress of the Year category—backed by a staggering record of at least 10 wins—Santos-Recto stands as a testament to unparalleled artistic longevity, versatility, and enduring grace. Across a remarkable career spanning decades, her exemplary body of work has defined the emotional and cultural landscape of Philippine cinema, seamlessly transitioning from a beloved child star to a powerhouse dramatic actress capable of breathing profound life into every complex character she portrays.
A tribute fit for royalty, a videography highlighting the movies and citations received by the actress through the years flashed on the big screen and was warmly acknowledged with a standing ovation by the appreciative audience. No less than film and television icon Ms. Boots Anson Roa affirmed Santos’ inaugural to the Hall of Fame. The cinematic icon also had veteran contemporaries Edgar Mortiz and Tirso Cruz III serenading her on the stage.
Yet, the grandeur of the evening is equally a celebration of the institution honoring her. For years, the PMPC Star Awards has firmly established itself as a trusted and most-awaited pillar within the local entertainment landscape. As a respected awards-giving body of dedicated entertainment journalists and writers, the PMPC does more than just hand out trophies; it serves as a vital engine for star-power amplification. By consistently recognizing excellence across mainstream blockbusters, independent films, and behind-the-scenes mastery—while also honoring lifetime contributors like Sharon Cuneta, Rez Cortez, Albert Michael Idioma, Alex Muhlach, and Ricky Lee—the Star Awards validates the sweat, tears, and brilliance of artists and industry workers alike.
