Two new faces -- first time aspirants for the senatorial race in the midterm elections made a mark among students-- during Town Hall debate.
Atty. Marvil Llasos, a son of an OFW, underscored the importance of labor export policy of the country and its bilateral agreements abroad.
"I know the pains of having a mother working abroad. But our OWFs deserve the best care from the government. After working abroad, they should be given economic education to improve their lives in the homeland," he said.
On the other, hand UST Professor Samson Alcantara proposes for a Teacher's Code believing that quality of education is the key to producing good citizens and better governance.
The Universtiy of Sto. Tomas, in partnership with the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and Solar News TV, hosted the second leg of Town Hall, with the aim of providing students with the opportunity to be informed of and assess first-hand the platforms and capabilities of the candidates,
the second Town Hall installment featured Senators Chiz Escudero and Gregorio Honasan; Grace Poe, Prof. Samson Alcantara, Rep. Sonny Angara, and Atty. Marvil Llasos.  The event was facilitated by Solar
News TV host/news anchor Pia Hontiveros-Pagkalinawan and PPCRV communications & media director Ana De Villa-Singson.
As part of its format, each Town Hall assembly is divided into the following portions: the candidates’ opening spiel expounding on why people should vote for them; three Q&A portions featuring questions
from different sectors, students and an experts panel, respectively; an open mic segment centered around a topic selected by the host university; and a one-word association section.
For the UST session, the experts panel was composed of PPCRV Chair and former Philippine ambassador to Rome Henrietta de Villa; UST Dean Anthony Vasco, Fr. Cabading and PPCRV trustee Atty. Marina Demetrio.
Some of the topics tackled during the UST Town Hall include the Freedom of Information Law, the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill, employment generation for new graduates, the Sabah issue and foreign policies on territorial claims by the Philippines.
The Town Hall session is slated to be held in other universities with the aim of involving the students in the electorate process.
