Coco Martin joins Rep. Angara's campaign for quality education

Team Pnoy senatorial candidate Edgardo “Sonny” Angara has started his advocacy campaign for quality education  with a  tour of Manila’s university belt  recently. Joining him and his supporters is popular and award-winning actor Coco Martin.
Angara, chair of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Higher and Technical Education, has paved the way for Filipinos to have access to quality education by passing laws that improve the educational system and help new graduates.
Among these are The Kindergarten Education Act and the law raising the teachers’ salaries. He is also the main proponent of the Bill of Rights for New Graduates, which mandates government to help graduates find employment.
Angara and Martin visited the Philippine Normal University (PNU), Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) and Philippine Women’s University (PWU) as part of the U-belt tour to campaign for
quality education as a ticket to a better future among the students.
Martin told thrilled students that he was happy he heeded his grandmother’s advice to finish his studies. He said he was raised by his grandmother and he had to work as a waiter in a local restaurant to augment his budget for education.
Still a waiter at that time he was discovered by a talent scout, Martin opted to finish his studies until he earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management before trying his luck in showbiz.
“I had promised my grandmother that I would finish college before venturing into show business because no amount of adulation and money can replace the value of quality education. I was able to finish my studies even as a working student,” he said.
“Education is our arm wherever we go. That is why I’ve decided to support the candidacy of Kuya Sonny because I can see how he values education. I salute Kuya Sonny and  I beleive in his advocacy and sincere efforts to help the people,” Martin said.
For his part, Angara said he really admired Martin for giving priority to education and working at the same time just to finish a degree even if it meant delaying his chances at show business.
“Aside from his being a good actor, the youth should also emulate Martin for his achievement in education. I hope he will be a good example to other students,” Angara said.
The young Angara, who is also hurdling issues on political dynasty, said he is running not on a free ride but based on his qualification and track records as three term lawmaker of the lone district of Aurora province.
If he wins in the midterm election, Angara will replace his father, whose term as senator ends this year. The elder Angara is slated to run for governor in Aurora province, the family’s political bailiwick.
The Harvard-trained lawyer is also known for sponsoring  laws that support the Filipino family such as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, which exempts the sale of goods and services to senior citizens from
expanded value added tax so they can to enjoy the full 20 percent discount privilege, the Personal Equity and Retirement Account (PERA), the Magna Carta of Women.

Building a robust national ICT infrastructure

The opportunities from digital innovations were accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic as limitations on mobility prompted citizens to accelerate migration to digital spaces. In the Philippines, these changes are evident in the growth of digital payment systems, online meeting platforms, electronic health services, online retail, direct delivery services, and many others. However, with increasing connectivity comes increasing cyber threats. That’s why efficient solutions and infrastructure are essential in combating cyber threats and ensuring business survival. Individually, Filipinos are susceptible to data breaches and privacy violations online. On a societal level, cyberattacks by state or non-state actors on critical infrastructure can undermine national security and impact economic activity. While cyber threats originate online, their consequences can manifest beyond the digital space into our physical lives. These kinds of attacks also have direct economic costs. In fact, f
