ASHLEY ORTEGA: Getting to know the actress and celebrity influencer

Ashley Ortega is one of the underrated actresses in Philippine entertainment industry. At a young age, she could easily delineate roles, bida-kontrabida, that's really meant for senior actresses the likes of Marriam in “Legal Wives” and as Jackie in "Widows' Web."

A professional figure skater, she started skating at the age of 4 competing in different countries like Thailand and Malaysia. But television waved at her at the age of 12 for commercials and eventually she delved on acting with "Hearts on Ice" for her first bida role ever. For her remarkable portrayal as the dreamer Ponggay, Ashley was recognized as the Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2024 Platinum Stallion National Media Awards held last February.

On May 30, 2024, Ortega won her first international award, as Best Actress in the 2024 Harlem International Film Festival for the 19th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival entry, "As if it's True," opposite the equally talented young actor Khalil Ramos.

Congratulations, Ashley, for the well-deserved recognition!!!

All smiles for the safe arrival in Hong Kong

Travelling together for the first time

Aside from various commercials and out of town gigs as part of the Sparkle, Ashley is currently wrapping up for the historical drama “Pulang Araw” along with the stellar cast from the Kapuso Network led by Dennis Trillo and Alden Richards.

If everything's turning rosy for this lady, that's because she is one of the Gen Z  actresses who is down to earth and easy to work with. This one is this writer’s first-hand experience with the talented actress.

Ashley exchanges banter with VFC's Raymond Chan

As our celebrity influencer during the Manila media tour of Regal Hotel International in Hong Kong which I organized together with VFC Travel and Tours in November 2023, Ashley never gave us any headache. In fact, she joined our group as if she was one of the media reps touring the hotel properties of Regal and other destinations where she also served as our photographer especially for the mandatory we-fies to document our travel.

During interviews with hotel officers and Hong Kong officials, Ashley would be asking intelligent questions and would even share her travel experiences in Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, etc. She’s a no nonsense young woman who shows much maturity at her young age.

While touring Hong Kong, Ashley, the youngest of the group at 24 and our supposed-to- baby, would even serve as our tour guide for the vibrant destination that was Hong Kong. She would roam around unaccompanied and would even direct us for meet up for lunch, for coming back to the hotel, or for quick shopping. And every time she comes back – and always on time to agreed time and place  --  she's full of smiles despite the long walk. That's because she was happy with her loot and bargains.

What a veteran and good hunter-shopper she is!

Thank you so much, Ashley, for joining us in a one-of-a-kind adventure we had in Hong Kong. Here's wishing you could join us again in our future travels.

Meantime, we look forward to your success and for more showbiz projects and recognitions in the acting department. Rest assured, we shall always be your titas and supporters in your chosen profession.

Building a robust national ICT infrastructure

The opportunities from digital innovations were accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic as limitations on mobility prompted citizens to accelerate migration to digital spaces. In the Philippines, these changes are evident in the growth of digital payment systems, online meeting platforms, electronic health services, online retail, direct delivery services, and many others. However, with increasing connectivity comes increasing cyber threats. That’s why efficient solutions and infrastructure are essential in combating cyber threats and ensuring business survival. Individually, Filipinos are susceptible to data breaches and privacy violations online. On a societal level, cyberattacks by state or non-state actors on critical infrastructure can undermine national security and impact economic activity. While cyber threats originate online, their consequences can manifest beyond the digital space into our physical lives. These kinds of attacks also have direct economic costs. In fact, f
