PH hosts International Symposium for Arts, Inclusion and Diversity on March 6

The International Symposium & SAORI Hands Weaving Workshop in the Philippines is being held virtually for the first time on
March 6, 2021 at 10:00 am.
Titled, International Symposium for Arts, Inclusion and Diversity
(ISAID), the program highlights the exchange of experiences of nine Asian countries, namely, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.

"The new normal -- with COVID 19 still hounding us -- touches and transforms all lives differently. But during this pandemic and challenging time, life can still be good. We can still be together, one heart, one mind. Learning happens and friendship continues to strive. It is through this symposium that we could gather valuable resources among families with person/s with disabilities, professionals, and the general public," said Mrs. Rebecca Martinez Santos, ISAID chairperson and
Founder / Executive Director
of St. Francis Integrated Arts School (SFIASI)/SAORI Hands of Love.

The theme of the symposium is “Beyond Welfare Towards Social Participation, the Effectiveness of the Arts Practiced by Persons with Disabilities in Asia."

"We hope that we can discuss the power of arts by PWDs not as a mean of welfare but as a mean of social participation. We would also like to discuss about the people outside of social inclusion. We also hope that the symposium will open to everybody not only the specialists but to the general public to actually feel and experience “Inclusion” and “Diversity,” Santos said.

The two-part symposium will discuss Arts Inclusion and Diversity in general and the Implementation of SAORI Weaving in the Society. SAORI Weaving, the Japanese therapeutic weaving (https://saori-eng.jimdo.com). has been cited as a good example of Inclusion.

"Our dream and  goal is to see the day when we don’t have to use the word ”inclusion” -- that is when all people are included to the society, live equally and no one is left behind as stipulated in Sustainable Development Goals," said
Ms Yoko Hirasawa, representative director for Art For All Japan, who is also co-organizer of ISAID.

Providing entertainment as well as sample of arts implementation would be the musical performance from Japan (Otoasobi Project and Mr. Niikura Takeo), dance performance from Hong Kong (Centre for Community Culture Development) & SAORI Fashion Show (SAORI Hands of Love, Philippines & others).

This event is held for the benefit of SFIASI students who would get assistance through vocational livelihood courses.

Building a robust national ICT infrastructure

The opportunities from digital innovations were accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic as limitations on mobility prompted citizens to accelerate migration to digital spaces. In the Philippines, these changes are evident in the growth of digital payment systems, online meeting platforms, electronic health services, online retail, direct delivery services, and many others. However, with increasing connectivity comes increasing cyber threats. That’s why efficient solutions and infrastructure are essential in combating cyber threats and ensuring business survival. Individually, Filipinos are susceptible to data breaches and privacy violations online. On a societal level, cyberattacks by state or non-state actors on critical infrastructure can undermine national security and impact economic activity. While cyber threats originate online, their consequences can manifest beyond the digital space into our physical lives. These kinds of attacks also have direct economic costs. In fact, f
