Edmark launches 90-day slimming challenge

Have you notice that you can't fit in your favorite clothes lately? Do you feel your excess weight, especially around your midsection, make it harder for you to breath, making simple tasks like walking up stairs difficult?

Chances are you’d gained unreasonable weight.  Or you may be obese already.

Obesity is defined as having excess proportion of total body fat. Analyzing your body mass index or BMI is one of the most common ways to measure or determine if you are obese or not. A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. In the Asian category of the data from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, you are already overweight if your BMI is between 24 and 26.9. Meanwhile, a person is already considered obese if his or her BMI is over 27.

Who Should Lose Weight and Why

The impact of being overweight or obese has on your body is one of the main reasons to lose weight. The more weight you gain, the more at risk you put yourself for some serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type-2 diabetes, sleep apnea, arthritis and  some forms of cancer.

According to the American Heart Association, an estimated 112,000 people die every year from conditions related to being overweight or obese. In the Philippines, a 2011 survey by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) showed that 22.3% of Filipino adults are overweight and 6.1% are obese.  The prevalence of overweight Filipinos is expected to increase significantly by 2015, which means more health problems ahead. If this trend continues, it is highly likely that more will suffer from high risk diseases that could lead to death.

Being overweight or obese also prevents you from being in top physical condition. Exercise that leads to weight loss will help you get back your physique and make it easier to perform the everyday tasks that now seem difficult. Even losing a moderate amount of weight when you're obese -- 5 to 10 percent -- can significantly reduce your risk for chronic disease.

Building a robust national ICT infrastructure

The opportunities from digital innovations were accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic as limitations on mobility prompted citizens to accelerate migration to digital spaces. In the Philippines, these changes are evident in the growth of digital payment systems, online meeting platforms, electronic health services, online retail, direct delivery services, and many others. However, with increasing connectivity comes increasing cyber threats. That’s why efficient solutions and infrastructure are essential in combating cyber threats and ensuring business survival.
