PMPC Star Awards Inc. recently signed contracts with businessman and artist/producer Jojo Mendrez as producer of the club's major events—the Star Awards for Movies and the Star Awards for Television.
Present during the milestone event were PMPC President Fernan de Guzman, Vice President Rodel Fernando, and Atty. Pauline Dolor Apostol Advincula, alongside officers of the organization and the creative staff of Mendrez.
With this collaboration, Jojo Mendrez has come full circle as event producer. Prior to becoming an artist himself, he has successfully mounted shows in the past featuring some of the country’s biggest stars like Sharon Cuneta, Ogie Alcasid, Pops Fernandez, and other prominent celebrities, especially in his home province, Lucena, Quezon.
During the contract signing held in Quezon City, Mendrez conveyed his excitement in taking on the responsibility. He emphasized his belief in the club’s standards and credibility, having recognized and honored Filipino talents in film and television for decades. He added that success would come through shared commitment between both parties.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, PMPC Prexy De Guzman expressed his delight over the partnership, noting that the organization is now assured of a strong and smooth production for its upcoming 42nd Star Awards for Movies and the 39th Star Awards for TV under Mendrez’s capable leadership.
Acknowledged as showbiz' Revival King, Mendrez also expressed his excitement with the good reception of his latest revival single, “Valentine,” originally popularized by Martina McBride and Jim Brick man. This comes after a series of hit revivals including Somewhere in My Past which was originally popularized by the late teen star Julie Vega.
PMPC Star Awards Inc. is composed of entertainment editors and writers across all media platforms covering the entertainment industry. For four decades and counting, PMPC continues to mount the highly anticipated Star Awards for Movies, TV, and Music.
A closer look at the artist and producer
Despite his accomplishments both as a realtor and as an artist, Mendrez has maintained a low profile. His passion in singing didn't come overnight. At the age of 10, he bravely took the stage in a local singing competition, crooning his own version of Mr. DJ fueled by his admiration for then singing sensation Sharon Cuneta.
To further hone his singing skills, he joined the Ryan Cayabyab's School of Music in his 20s. However, he began his musical career much later than expected with well-received remakes, including Apo Hiking Society's Tuyo Na'ng Damdamin and Jireh Lim's Magkabilang Mundo, culminating in a PMPC Star Award for Music for his revival of Florante's Handog. But it was his sold-out 2018 concert at The Newport Performing Arts Theater which finally solidified his place in the industry.
His rise to prominence also came with challenges and controversies, particularly his friendship with Starstruck alumni Mark Herras and Rainier Castillo. Putting the past behind, Mendrez expressed his well wishes for Herras and hoped for his recovery from whatever challenges he may currently be facing. While he prays for Herras to find inner peace, he is proud of Castillo for doing well in his online selling business and living a modest life away from the lifestyle of the rich and famous.
In July 2025, Mendrez has literally entered a new chapter of his singing career by signing up with ABS-CBN’s Star Music for an upcoming album. In line with this, he also changed management. He is now being managed by Rams David of Artist Circle. And one of the changes that David imposed under his care is that there will be no more scandals and controversies for the Revival King. David wants to focus on Mendrez’s talent for singing.
Congratulations, PMPC and Jojo Mendrez!
